John Ecko meets Poet, William B. Burkholder

On Saturday the 14th I drove out to North East, PA for the book signing of fellow poet and friend, William B. Burkholder. I had the priviledge to hear him read some of his wonderful poems as his words held us all captive and opened up in our thoughts in a very visual and personal way. I have gotten to know William through his poetry and online conversations over the past year and it was a real honor to get a chance to meet him and listen as he read his works and spoke about what inspired them. This was a very special day for me and the atmosphere and hospitality of the staff at The Last Wordsmith Shoppe added a bit of magic to this wonderful occasion. I was encouraged to see such a warm reception to William’s poetry by all that attended with open hearts to his words and was thankful that such good places and people are still around that open their doors to poetry in such an ethusiastic way. Lastly, the icing on the cake was when “The Hooligans” arrived to share their wonderful music about the history, humor and spirit of Ireland. This was a good time through and through. If you haven’t had the chance to read William’s work, I highly recommend you do so. His poetry is inspiring. You can read some of his works at the Poetry Coffee House on Helium: http://www.helium.com/smf/index.php?board=35.0 He has written two books of poetry with a third one pending as well as a newly released CD of poetry entitled: “Beyond The Gate”.
